Emergency Same-Day Placements

All local authorities need an emergency same day placement for their children and young people for a variety of reasons: complete family breakdown, Police Protection Orders, child abandonment, criminal involvement (juvenile courts sometimes remand young people to the care of the local authority).

Community Foster Care operates a 42-day emergency scheme for Gloucestershire County Council (we currently provide three emergency placements). Foster carers on this scheme can expect a child to be placed at any time of the day or night and stay up to 42 days while their social worker completes their assessment.

All Community Foster Care’s emergency foster carers receive a high level of support, including weekly supervision, daily telephone contact and the young person will have one-to-one support from the Placement Support Team.
