About us
Community Foster Care is a multi-award winning charity breaking new ground in the care of children and young people. Our approach to fostering has been cited as a model by MPs, Directors of Social Services and community organisations. We offer an unrivalled package of care at low cost. At the same time, our not-for-profits status means that we are helping to regenerate some of Britain’s most disadvantaged communities. Community Foster Care has been growing year on year since its launch in 1999. We have flourished as a dynamic social enterprise because we understand your needs and because we constantly work to innovate and improve the services we offer you.

Competitive rates
Because Community Foster Care is a charity, we’re able to keep our fees low - amongst the lowest in England. With no shareholders, no paid Board of Directors, we can offer first-class services at extremely competitive rates.

Dedicated and exceptionally well-trained foster carers
No child could have better foster carers than those provided by Community Foster Care. Our carers are selected for their commitment, stamina and emotional resources. They undertake a rigorous, one-year training programme - the most comprehensive in the field - in which they learn how to integrate foster children into their families, manage challenging behaviour, sustain empathy, administer appropriate discipline, resolve conflicts and, when suitable, address issues of attachment and loss. After they’ve qualified, our carers receive excellent on-going support from us - monthly refresher programmes, close supervision from social workers, a 24-hour on-call service, link worker assistance, training on new approaches to fostering, regular respite and emergency assistance.

Award-winning package of care for our children
The children you place with us are guaranteed one of the best care packages in the UK. Once we take your referral, the child receives immediate attention from our team of dedicated professionals. We begin by establishing with our Consultant Psychiatrist and Educational Psychologist whether the child needs a comprehensive psychiatric or educational psychology assessment. We then deliver on-going therapeutic in-put from our team of chartered psychologists, counsellors and play therapists. Meanwhile an Education Liaison Worker determines the child’s educational requirements, working closely with schools to assist their progress or, in the case of excluded children, providing private tuition. Our policy is to proactively address the problems children have, to provide the services that will both help meet their emotional and mental health needs and realise their learning potential. Our specialists monitor the child’s progress and engage in a constant process of evaluation. We aim not just to temporarily alleviate suffering, but to help our children become rounded and wellbalanced individuals, able to integrate with others, express themselves constructively, build a sense of emotional security, and meet the challenges that lie ahead in their lives.

Making the most challenging placements succeed
How? By pioneering new approaches to help our carers cope with difficult and disruptive behaviour. We have introduced mandatory courses accredited by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities. Our courses have been piloted by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, and cover proactive and reactive intervention, crisis control, techniques for managing emotional arousal and defusing violent incidents. Because our carers are trained to successfully manage the most complicated and traumatic referrals, placement breakdowns are extremely rare.
