Kelly Panes has joined Community Foster Care at its offices in Royal Wootton Bassett.
She has teamed up with the independent agency’s Placement Support Worker Cally Williams as a Supervising Social Worker at the Lime Kiln Business Centre.
Kelly was brought up in Bristol and has a degree in Social Work from the University of Glamorgan in Cardiff.
The 26-year-old is no stranger to fostering: her parents were foster carers before she was born and returned to fostering when Kelly went to university.
After her degree, Kelly spent more than three years working for North Somerset Council, dealing with every aspect of social care including family support, child protection, adoption and family breakdown.
“I’ve wanted to be a social worker since I was 14 – fostering has always been a part of my life and I’ve seen it from both sides. The great thing about Community Foster Care is that it’s totally child-centred,” she said.
Chief Executive of Community Foster Care, which provides foster carers for children all over Swindon and Wiltshire, welcomed Kelly. “Her experience will be invaluable,” he said.
There are more than 400 children in care in Swindon and Wiltshire and a desperate shortage of foster carers.
