Connecting With Our Roots in Gloucester
We started right here in this community, and it’s still at the heart of everything we do. With the support of local people like you, we can continue changing children’s lives, right here where you live.
Putting the Community at the Heart of Foster Care
For nearly 30 years, Community Foster Care has been supporting children in Gloucester to find loving homes where they can thrive. When the charity was first set up in 1997, the core mission was to do fostering differently; to empower local communities who’d never even considered themselves eligible, to explore their potential and see the opportunities fostering could bring for them and local children.
The team literally knocked on doors across Coney Hill, Matson, Robinswood and Tuffley and asked people if they would consider becoming a foster carer. And once people knew they wouldn’t be expected to do it alone - that they’d have a community of support around them - and that they’d be trained in essential skills and paid fairly for this important role - more and more people said ‘yes’ and so Community Foster Care was born. Even to this day, we still have carers from that original group, and are proud to support many local children who have been able to thrive thanks to the input of carers in the area.
Things may have changed over 30 years, including the opening of our new office based in Kingsholm Road, but our core mission of doing fostering differently, empowering local communities, and ensuring all children can thrive in loving homes in their local area is still at the core of what we do. And being immersed in the local community is just as important to us today as it was back then, which is why you might have seen our team roaming around handing out leaflets, attending events, and talking to local groups and residents - because we still firmly believe community should be at the heart of fostering in Gloucester.
Help Keep Local Children Local
We are still firm in our mission to help keep local children local by empowering residents in Gloucester to recognise their potential as a foster carer. Could this be you?

“I used to work in schools and saw so many children in desperate need of stability and a safe place to call home. Witnessing that on a daily basis made me think that if I felt that strongly, maybe I could do something about it.”
