Connecting Local Children With Local Families in Lancaster

Community Foster Care was built on the belief that local communities should be at the heart of fostering and 30 years on, we still firmly believe this. With the support of local people like you, we can continue changing children’s lives, right here where you live.

Putting the Community at the Heart of Foster Care

For nearly 30 years, Community Foster Care has been supporting children to find loving homes where they can thrive. When the charity was first set up in 1997, the core mission was to do fostering differently; to empower local communities who’d never even considered themselves eligible, to explore their potential and see the opportunities fostering could bring for them and local children.

We set up our base in Lancaster because we’d seen too many children being moved out of their local community just so they’d have somewhere to go, and we simply didn’t think that was right. Cutting children off from their friends, families, and roots is detrimental to their wellbeing and long-term outcomes, so we stepped in and began working to find local carers who could support local children in the communities they know and love.

Being immersed in the community is just as important to us today as it was back then, which is why you might have seen our team roaming around handing out leaflets, attending events, and talking to local groups and residents - because we still firmly believe community should be at the heart of fostering in Lancaster.

Help Keep Local Children Local

We are still firm in our mission to help keep local children local by empowering residents in Lancaster to recognise their potential as a foster carer. Could this be you?

“I used to work in schools and saw so many children in desperate need of stability and a safe place to call home. Witnessing that on a daily basis made me think that if I felt that strongly, maybe I could do something about it.”
