Community Foster Care is delighted to welcome back supervising social worker Jo Davis who has joined our team in Staunton as a specialist in parent and child placements.
Jo trained and qualified as a social worker at the University of Gloucestershire. She first joined Community Foster Care as a supervising social worker in 2009 and spent five years with the team.
Since then she has worked independently for local authorities, specialising in safeguarding children with disabilities, as well as parent and child placements.
Her new role sees her developing parent and child fostering at the not-for-profit agency.
“All over the country there is a huge need for foster carers willing to take a parent and child placement,” said Jo.
“In every case, the parent needs support. It may be a young mum who can’t cope alone with a new baby, or an older mum with mental health difficulties. All are potentially facing losing their children. A placement with foster carers gives them time to prove themselves in a caring and supportive environment.
“It’s a very rewarding role. Parents come from lots of different backgrounds and may not have had a good experience as a child, so they might need help to learn the skills of good parenting such as keeping their baby safe and giving warmth and stimulation whilst also looking after themselves and their home.”
Chief Executive of Community Foster Care, Mark Kingston, welcomed Jo. “We are delighted to have Jo back with us. Her experience is invaluable and we know she will be a huge asset to the organisation.”
CFC provides foster carers and family support programmes for children and families all over Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.
