Welcome

Photo of child and parentWelcome to Community Foster Care (CFC), an independent fostering agency and also a charity and social enterprise providing high quality, safe and supportive care for children in a family environment.

Providing placements in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon and West Cumbria our dedicated foster carers work extremely hard to make sure that our children receive the very best care and their life choices and chances are enhanced by continually monitoring their outcomes and putting in additional support where necessary.

Whether you are a prospective foster carer seeking more information or a local authority wishing to look at the services we have to offer, our website will give you a good insight into fostering with our charity. We will also keep you up to date with all our latest news, job opportunities and other services we have to offer. We include recent editorials and feedback from our current foster carers who are regularly contributing to our website.

Look at the news and development section for up to date information - stop press - Niaz one of our young men who recently won a Young Person of the Year Award with Young Gloucestershire for making the most of an opportunity was featured in The Times on Saturday 23rd May 2009 having told his story to their journalist.  Niaz lives with foster carers Dave and Michelle, their children and two unaccompanied asylum seeking young people.

Rebekah Pearson, Chief Executive was runner up at the 2009 Triodos Women in Ethical Business Awards in association with The Times, the Award Ceremony was in June at the London Symphony Orchestra's building St. Lukes Chapel.  Rebekah attended together with two foster carers, our senior practitioner and a representative from Gloucestershire County Council.  To see the film made for the Award Ceremony go to www.triodos.co.uk.

Community Foster Care was awarded the Social Enterprise Mark Award by Sue Reppold from RISE on 12th September 2009.  Community Foster Care is the first charity/social enterprise in Gloucestershire to be awarded The Mark and the only Foster Care Agency in England.  This demonstrates that we are trading for the people and the planet and not for share holders.  The Award was presented at Community Foster Care's 10 year Anniversary Celebrations when Achievement Awards were given to all children living with foster carers as well as to Children Who Foster.  The afternoon ended with Long Service Awards to all our foster carers but particularly celebrating the work of two foster carers; Wendy & Steve and Rose who have both fostered for Community Foster Care since it started in 1999.

Partnership working - CFC is working in partnership with Young Gloucestershire who provide activities for the foster carers, their birth children and fostered children supported also by Gloucestershire County Council.  The activities are aimed at improving self esteem and confidence for the children and young people and they have enjoyed a variety of activities including pamper treatment (girls); go karting; toboganning at Milton Keynes Snowdome as well as outings to Legoland and the Black Country Museum.  You can learn more about Young Gloucestershire by going to their website www.youngglos.org.uk.
