Community Foster Care is very proud to announce that one of our carers, Vanessa Worrall, has been nominated as one of the greatest women in Gloucestershire.
Vanessa joined our family of carers in 2016 and offers respite care.
For 20 years, however, she has worked tirelessly for Together in Matson, an organisation which aims to provide for the needs of young people and the community in Matson, Gloucester, developing their skills, providing opportunities and offering support, advice and encouragement.
She joined the team at the Redwell Centre as a youth worker in 1998 and became the Project Manager in 2010.
She was amazed to be nominated in Citizen and Echo’s list of Gloucestershire’s 50 Greatest Women of All Time. Her name is now on a plaque at Cheltenham Racecourse, along with others such as writer Dame Jilly Cooper, pop star Lily Allen, poet Pam Ayres and Princess Anne, to mark the centenary of women’s suffrage.
“I didn’t know anything about it until I saw it in the paper. It was a bit of a shock,” said Vanesa.
She paid tribute to her fellow carers. “There are a fair few other women who could be nominated – every foster carer for a start. I only offer respite care and take children for a few weeks at a time. How the CFC carers do it day in, day out, I don’t know. They’re miracle workers.
“I’m still the same old person – these things come and go.”
One of her biggest fans is her son – our Gavin Worrall who does a great job as our Placement Support Worker.
